Girlschool
Girlschool are a British heavy metal band from London who are one of the first and biggest all female rock/metal bands in history. They formed in 1978 as a small high school band called Painted Lady, they are the longest running female metal band that are still active today after more than thirty years. They have gone through countless line-up changes and have enjoyed plenty of media exposure over the years. The original line-up of Girlschool in 1981 consisted of Kim McAuliffe, Enid Williams, Denise Dufort and Kelly Johnson. Unfortunatly lead guitarist and singer Kelly Johnson died of cancer in 2007. Kim McAuliffe, Enid Williams and Denise Dufort along with Jackie Chambers make up the current line-up of Girlschool. Iv always been a huge fan of Girlschool ever since i was a little girl and my mother would have their album “Hit n Run” constantly on repeat in the car. My favorite song from the album was (and still is) the song Hit and Run. Not only has that song helped me through some really tough times in life, but it also has a great beat and some of the most amazing lyrics iv ever heard! There are many reasons as to why i love this band so much but one of the main reasons is because they were just normal people, from normal neighbourhoods, who turned a dream into something amazing and i will always admire them for that. They are the kind of band that people tend to misjudge or misunderstand at first sight, but the amazing thing about them is that they have the ability to turn peoples heads and make them say “
Damn…. These chicks can really play!”
